Hank Willis Thomas

A Different Way of Story Telling.       Thru all the galleries and artist that we have seen in this course, the predominant use of remix has been noticed. Nonetheless the way each artist create his work is very different. While some prefer to use their work in order to recreate a very similar pattern, other like Hank Willis Thomas, appropriate most of the work of other to create his art, as we were able to see on the video of Martin Luther King and the confederate state. Doing this type of appropriation,  Thomas is able to create a new context with the same symbols, object and brands that we recognize everyday. I personally thing that even though Thomas has a different approach to remix that the vast majorities of the artist we have seen, his technics create a great piece of art behind the true meaning of remix.

Sotheby's

Sotheby's      Auctions are a great and traditional way to sell things with a value difficult to see to common people. Nonetheless, I'm glad that I wasn't able to go to the Sotheby's and had to do this blog instead because all my doubts about prices at auctions were clarified. Understanding the 10 factors that add value to a piece of art is very important in this field, as I didn't understand why a old picture of a farm cost more that a modern photo of a beautiful skyscraper is attribute to Authenticity, condition, rarity, provenance, historical importance, size, fashion, subject matter, medium, and quality.       After watching the videos about auctions, I kind of understand the value of some pieces that we saw at the auction last week. However, is hard to agree that a photograph half white half black is value around USD$ 200,000 and a well shoot picture as the one of Mohamed Ali one of the best boxers of the past century was value at less tha...

Life Like at the Met Breuer

As Robert Smith stated Life like is  " unavoidably timely; issues of race, gender and identity are built in, as are the imminent threat, or promise, of robots and replicants." and I couldn't agree more. However, the fact that those issues and threat are unavoidably timely doesn't mean we shouldn't do anything to change that. What I think he meant is that because of our nature those issues arise but to our same nature they disappear as well.

One of the most interesting trips during this course have been to the New York City Public Library. Finding out about the picture library was such a interesting thing to know exits. Although they were many project in the  "You Say You Want a Revolution: Remembering the 60s" exhibition that kind of fall intro appropriation.                                                    As the picture above, show an famous quote from Eldridge Cleaver transform into an art piece. Nonetheless, we cannot be sure that they had Cleaver permission to use this quote as this, what it means this is a typical way of appropriation.
