While visiting the Transformer exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian, there were many pieces that made me stop and think about them. However, Kevin McKenzie’s art work “Father, Son, Holy Ghost.” (2015) was one of those works that left you speechless. When I first walked into the sculpture my first impression was being very curious about what three buffalo skulls with neon lights represented. Nonetheless, perception is the base of judgement, and understanding that in a museum of American Indian, buffalos were those animals that those tribes hunted helps you realize that these skulls in a wall with neon lights was some kind of highlight of what buffalos means to this people.

After doing some research, my first analysis on the artwork was not correct 100%. Nonetheless, as the author stated, “This is where the past confronts the present” my first thought about buffalos being important aspect to the tribes was correct. However, the author tries to bring live to the buffalo skulls which to him express the Indian spirituality, and to get that culture transformed into the present. With that being said, I really enjoyed walking thru the exhibition and even more doing research on the sculpture because it made me understand such a fascinating piece which stand out from the very first moment that you walk into the room.
